Electrical / Controls Engineering Intern
Linde Gas Pittsburg, California
May 2026–present Full time May–August 2026; part time, 15 hours a week, since
Linde is a global industrial gases and engineering company whose products and plant technologies serve industries including healthcare, electronics, food production and manufacturing. My work is at the plant-controls level: maintaining the systems operators use to monitor equipment and building tools for the engineers who configure them. I also shared this internship publicly on LinkedIn.
- Upgraded the plant’s eight-node SCADA environment: two servers, five operator-view nodes and one engineering workstation. SCADA gathers live plant data and presents it to operators; the upgrade meant coordinating the server and workstation configuration across the whole site. I followed a 200-page procedure and was handling plant SCADA issues independently by the end of the summer.
- Built the Node Builder after a corrupted manual build took 20 hours to recover. It automates the 19-step setup for GE Vernova Proficy iFIX, the HMI and SCADA software used at the plant. The Python tool supports four node types, makes backups, validates each step and checks file hashes. It cut a procedure budgeted at four to six hours to under 30 minutes, and Linde IT approved it.
- After a partial deployment locked technicians out of iFIX, changed the tool to mirror the full site tree and recount its integrity before deployment so the same failure cannot recur.
- Wrote an offline SCADA Alarm Analyzer with checks for chattering and burst alarms, concepts covered by the ISA-18 series of alarm-management standards. It ranked 81,443 events across 13 days of logs in seconds and found one tag responsible for a third of the alarms.
- Packaged both tools as single-file executables without an installer or network access. GitHub Actions runs 279 tests and builds and smoke-tests the executable before each release.
- Commissioned a storage tank at the Loveland plant into live production, writing RSLogix ladder logic for valves and PID loops, building HMI graphics and connecting the PLC to SCADA.
- Currently specifying and directing a Plant Request Portal in Next.js and Prisma. It replaces the Word scope sheet plant managers use to request controls work, gathering equipment and job details before a request reaches the controls team.
- Presented plant tooling at Linde’s global controls meeting for more than 90 engineers.
Electrical / Automation Engineering Intern
Siemens Digital Industries Bangkok, Thailand
June–December 2025
Siemens Digital Industries brings industrial automation together with software and data systems. In Bangkok, I worked on that connection directly, moving production data from PLCs into tools engineers could use for monitoring and analysis.
- Built two OT-to-IT data pipelines on S7-1200 and ET200SP hardware: OPC UA to EnergyManager PRO, and OPC UA to Node-RED, InfluxDB Cloud and Grafana. The pipelines exposed live process data to engineering and operations dashboards without changing the control logic running the equipment.
- Designed a Modbus RTU function-block architecture that assigns device addresses dynamically, so adding a field device does not require per-device logic changes.
- Configured OPC UA Sign and Encrypt with certificate-authority and certificate-revocation-list management for PLC, HMI and power-meter connections. The setup authenticated endpoints and protected communications as part of work aligned with IEC 62443.
- Trained an H2O AutoML model to predict sugar-batch duration with under 6% error on real batches and shipped it in Streamlit.
- Wrote more than ten commissioning manuals covering PKI, certificate revocation and time synchronization, and presented the pipelines to Siemens sales teams.
